Joyce and Jerry Jude will be bringing a mix of country and gospel music to Chicory Square Friday.
Sponsored by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph and the Downtown Merchants Association, Friday’s concert gets underway at noon at Chicory Square in downtown Bluefield.
“Country and gospel is what we do,” Jerry Jude said. “We’ve been doing this for years. We’ve been married for about 44 years, and we have been doing it ever since then.”
Jude said he has been playing the guitar since he was about a teenager. He said Joyce was already singing when he first met her 44 years ago.
“She used to sing on the radio for her church group when she was a teenager,” Jude said of his wife. “We have always liked music and we used to go down in Texas for the winter and South Texas and there are jams galore down there.”
Jude said the couple, who live in North Tazewell, will perform old classic country, along with gospel.
The weekly concerts continue each Friday at noon through the first week of September. They are free, and the public is encouraged to attend. The door prizes for Friday’s concert are being provided by Bluefield State College.
In the event of inclement weather, information concerning the concert will placed on the Daily Telegraph’s website,www.bdtonline.com, as well as the newspapers’ Facebook and Twitter pages.
