BREAKING: Kyrgyzstan President Jeenbekov Resigns Amid Unrest.
Kyrgyzstan’s President Sooronbay Jeenbekov has resigned on Thursday, following a mass protests against official results of parliamentary elections that handed victory to political parties allied with him and his government.
Jeenbekov said in a statement on October 15, that he decided to resign “because peace and unity in our country is more important than any post.”
“I am not clinging to power. I do not want to go down in the history of Kyrgyzstan as a president who allowed bloodshed and shooting on its people. I have taken the decision to resign,” Jeenbekov said in a statement released by his office.
